You can change the background colour of the TOC only, and even then there
is a bug in the feature that renders it more or less unusable. For more
information on this, see:
There should be instructions on how to change the background colour in the
online help that accompanies your authoring tool. For example, if you're
using HTML Help Workshop, the procedure is described in the topic headed
"To customize the appearance of a contents file". Whichever tool you use,
the colour setting is stored in an <object> tag at the start of the contents
(.hhc) file. For example:
