Hi Amelia,
Word 2002 (XP) and 2003 have Table styles.
If you're using Word 2000, there's a workaround that allows you to set a
single, default table format (borders, shading, font, color, heading rows,
etc.):
1. Table|Insert|Table.
2. Click AutoFormat.
3. Select one of the formats from the panel on the left. The preview panel
on the right displays the base format; select the one that most resembles
your desired default table format.
4. Use the check boxes to customize the base format.
5. Click OK.
6. Select the Set as Default for New Tables check box.
7. Click OK.
Now, every time you insert a new table in your document, it will follow your
customized format. Not exactly what you asked for, but better than nothing.
HTH,
Dan Goldstein
