I'm with Dick on this one. Make sure you understand your brief. In addition
to updating, do they want you to edit, or reformat, or both?

It could be both: One good way of making a physically smaller document
whilst maintaining font size is to hack out all the excess verbiage, turn
around passive sentences and remove redundancies such as in "To X the Y,
Click on the Y you want to X".

You can also cut out pointless illustrations of dialogue boxes, e.g. you
don't really need pictures of every "Do you want to do this?
Yes/No/Cancel/OK" box.

It's amazing how you can shrink a document when you cut out the stuff that
isn't actually information.
