TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
At our place, I can VPN in, use remote desktop, access
and do everything I can in the office. Not all
employees are onsite anyway. And, I tend to be more
productive at home because I work overtime and through
lunch and stuff ... and I have a dedicated office.
But, work from home is only allowed for overtime, for
most employees including technical writers. So, I have
to be in the office--face time is more important.
As an aside, I once did a gig where I documented a
product, help system (c-s help), PDF, CD-insert, all
without meeting or talking to the people I was working
with (from the USA to Europe and Asia). Even payment
was electronic. I got a nice letter of recommendation
out of that; it was a good gig!
