Subject: RE: teaching technical writing to engineers
Many moons ago when I attended Michigan Tech University, we used a grammar
book called "The Little, Brown Handbook." I remember that being one of the
best basic grammar-teaching books in how it was written and structured. Some
17 or 18 years later, I still remember what dangling and misplaced modifiers
are (which I discovered that I was notorious for) and how to avoid using
them. The grammar class based on that book was second to none as far as
teaching me how to write clearly.
I checked Amazon.com, and the book is still being published and is up to the
9th edition. That site also lists "The Little, Brown Compact Handbook,"
which I'm guessing is a subset of the other book.
