idea of good design and what research says is good design.

I ran across the research reading someone (can't recall) who was explaining why he decided to buck the left navigation dogma. I'd also stumbled over the claim that users focus on the right area of the screen first while reading about why banner ads in the top right/right side of the screen rec'd more hits. It also has to do with the fact the mouse tends to be used by the right hand, IIRC.
