While the discussion of Ontology icon copyrights was raging, I did the
Google image search... :-)
It turns out Google finds mostly screenshots of other applications'
flowcharts depicting their ontologies.Perhaps you could squeeze a flowchart
into an icon, and then use that icon in your flowchart as a representation
of your ontology workflow. Which creates a hermeneutic circle for your users
to ponder, but that's another story.
Seriously though, I don't think a graphic of an Ontology flowchart could be
made to look different enough from other non-Ontology flowcharts.
What on earth could graphically represent the concept of Ontology? A
portrait of Kant?
Here is the first Google hit on 'ontology...'
"An ontology is a specification of a conceptualization. ... "
If that doesn't clear it up, there's this:
"...an ontology is a specification used for making ontological commitments.
"
Good luck reducing that to a graphic! Maybe I just lack imagination.
I think I know what ontology is. I went through a well-known Western
Civilization curriculum as an undergrad. I've read the RDF spec and
understood most of it. And I know the Philosophers Drinking Song by heart,
so I think I'm qualified to comment. :-)
