I followed this thread rather intently. As someone who was recently unemployed and out of unemployment benefits, all I can say personal feelings toward this subject are directly related to an individuals ability to pay the rent, put food on the table and clothes on the body. If you can't do any of those things because many of the jobs in your industry, entry level or otherwise, have gone off shore, then you will be adamantly against it. If you have a job, live in a nice house with a mortgage you can pay, eat well (and often) and dress rather smartly, then the subject of off shoring won't stir up as much emotion. As for Friedman, the example he used to justify his position was rather skewed.

I quote the conclusion:

The Americans' self-image that this tech thing was
their private preserve is over. This is a wake-up call
for U.S. workers to redouble their efforts at
education and research. If they do that, he said, it
will spur "a whole new cycle of innovation, and we'll
both win. If we each pull down our shutters, we will
both lose."
Don't you agree?
