In the US, at least, rather than "correct," one should say "current"
or "accepted." In this sort of term, hyphenation is generally a
temporary form of combining words in a new way. Eventually, if the
combination becomes accepted conceptually, the hyphen disappears.

This is different, still-valid use of hyphens ;)
