There *is* no difference. Neither one does you any good, professionally or
personally. I once saw a bumper sticker in Israel: "Getting angry means
punishing yourself for the stupidity of others."
> So, my footer mysteriously disappeared and I clicked on MS Word's Help
> command...
Perhaps the footer "mysteriously" disappeared because you added or removed a
section break.

I assume that you mean "always" when you use a new installation of Word for
the first time. If you clear the option correctly, you never see it a second
time.
> Don't even get me [started] on setting up bulleted lists in the Style
dialog.
Do you mean, "Please don't give me any useful advice on setting up bulleted
lists in the Style dialog?"
> If you can't tell, I'm working in a new environment where MS

And we know that you have the skills to do excellent work in any
environment. You'll quickly master Word's quirks (with quiet but generous
help from TECHWR-L and WORD-PC), thus proving to your new employers what a
smart choice they made.
