The audience/customer may always be right, but when a newbie tech writer is trying to figure things out, that doesn't help much.

What *does* help, IMO, is a detailed response like this one:

MB = megabyte, which refers to the data storage capacity of an SDRAM module or a hard disk drive.

Mb = megabit, which refers to the data storage capacity of on-chip memory found in the silicon architecture of a microprocessor.

That's helpful. :D
