John Posada wondered: <<Hi, guys...I've started using the Equation Editor in Word 2003 to layout Command Line Syntax diagrams. Around here, one of the conventions is to underline the option that is the default. Simplistic example:
| ON |
CONFirm | | DATA
| OFF |
where the vertical bars are a set of brackets. Anyway, I want to underline the ON to designate that it is the default.>>

My concerns with your approach are that I'm not sure whether you'll be able to reliably spellcheck the words in the equation editor, search for them, or export them easily to other formats (e.g., HTML). Why not try something simpler and more portable? Create a table with the same number of rows and columns, select the center cells that contain the options and apply your choice of cell borders, then create a style called "default option" that you can apply to the desired option text.
