All this talk of what to do if you think someone else
is on the line in a phone interview bring up a point
that was only mildly touched upon by Andrew and
Mike...
A phone interview is a good opportunity for BOTH
parties (interviewer and interviewee) to learn a lot
about each other without committing time to a sit-down
interview.
Remember, an interview is NOT just about getting a
job. It's about determining whether or not you want to
work somewhere, if it's the right fit for you, and if
you think your potential co-workers are going to be
worth putting up with.
That said, if you suspect someone's listening in on
your interview, well, what does that immediately tell
you about your potential employer, and how does that
make you feel? If the answers are both "not good",
then you DID have a successful interview - you weeded
out a bad job. Now grab a pint and celebrate!

Not to piss off some contractors on the list, but it's
perceived that FTEs are more loyal and are planning to
be around for the long haul. Whether or not that's
actually the case is usually disregarded.
