Is it only me, or has this discussion wandered off into the absurd?
Mark won't budge from his position, and I'm sure he has a number of good
examples to back up his assertions. Most of us are comfortable in our
positions as well, given that we've seen them work and work effectively.
Certainly, nothing Mark has to say is going to change my mind, because I
frankly have a persuasive set of experiences of my own and don't believe
in the tailored solution for most technical writing.
Mark is correct in that adopting the XML version of Docbook has much
more to do with adopting the Docbook semantics than it does with XML
itself. I've worked with both the SGML and XML versions, and from an
author's point of view they are very similar.
>From a "tools" point of view the SGML and XML versions are quite
different, and the technologies that can be used with the XML version
are, IMHO, much more powerful and easier to use. But again, that's my
opinion. It is one of many dtds/schemas that can be validated and
adhere to the XML model, and because of that there are a number of
advantages one can leverage. Can we at least agree on that assertion?
