You're right to be upset, but this is not at all unusual. Often management seems to think that tech writing is just a kind of clerical work. They don't grasp that there's research, fiddling with the product, review cycles, etc.

It's tempting to lie and say, "Sure, no problem!" Since you're the only one telling them what they want to hear, you'll probably get the job. Not very honest, but you can rationalize that they're getting precisely the level of honesty they're asking for. But remember, this isn't just an ethical issue. Consider how screwed up their whole organization is likely to be. If they're imposing absurd goals on their writers, they're probably doing the same for the development team. The result is likely to be utter insanity and chaos. If you can deal with that, well, good for you. But it's more stress than some of us can handle.
