Well I've always been a writer. Sold my first poem in second grade, won awards, wanted to run off with my sixth grade boyfriend (after high school of course) and we were both going to be lawyers.

Wrote and modeled in high school and performed in all the hs plays and community theatre, so went to NYC attended NYU as a theatre major, played in a play so far off broadway it's barely worth mentioning.

Transferred schools. Worked in production and then editorial at the daily college newspaper (circ. 60,0000) and took a job at the Cleveland Plain Dealer after graduation. Realized could make more than $18K a year if I broadened my skills so I did and within 2 months was making $18/hr writing training materials for Mac Word users.

And that's my story. Now I'm back being "talent" as well as a writer... keeps your options open!

If you had another career before you became a technical communicator, what
was it and why did you decide to pursue technical communication?
