We were recently acquired, and I had to make some quick changes in my docomentation -- tools and output -- to match our new owners' standards, work methods, etc.

I really don't know. I've never been through the being-bought process before this summer, so I'm unclear on the etiquette and the proprieties (if any).
I've got three vacation weeks that I *must* use up before the new year, or I lose 'em, so that would be a fine interval in which to learn a new tool or two, and sort out new templates. Thus my time-limited, possibly precocious interest.

Also, if it *is* kosher to have a wee chat with our soon-to-be's, would it be proper to seek them out via this list? If your web-site says you are about to merge with Rainbow, you know who you are. :-)

I don't think that's improper in any sense of the word. INdeed it may very well enhance your future performance. Transitions are always tough on all parties and create high levels of stress. They are just as anxious about you as you are about them. Assuming the deal goes through, you will soon be working with these guys and the sooner you get to know and understand them and conversely, the sooner the requisite smooth working relationship will develop. Having said that, I would not go past the hello stage until the deal is finalized. You must be very careful about not having the perception, that you may are careless about disclosing or receiving confidential material.
