Well, personally, I just wouldn't use the word at all. It's one of those "vouns" or "nerbs" (I'm not sure which term is correct here) that makes me cringe.

For years I've heard and used a spoken abbreviation for "documenting" when talking with managers and other tech writers. That abbreviation *sounds* like "docking" - as in "when I get done docking this app, I've got a ton of release notes to do."

Is there a correct way to *write* this word? Obviously "docking" is both incorrect and deceptive. But "docing" looks weird, and "doc'ing" looks like the name of an obscure underground Haiku poet. "Doc-ing" comes close, but still looks bad, at least to me.

Suggestions?
