Hi Anna,
We're currently looking for a full time editor and the job description is as
follows:

* Editing highly technical, complex software documentation (including
manuals, online help, glossaries, indexes)

* Writing or maintaining a style guide and researching the latest trends
in information development (e.g., minimizing, single-sourcing)

* Performing developmental, substantive, and copy edits of technical
manuals and online help produced by writers

* Applying product knowledge, related-documentation knowledge, and
audience understanding to help writers validate information in their
documents

* Playing a lead role in task forces and committees to develop and improve
editorial standards, processes, and the quality of information products

* Writing or updating internal standards and training documents as needed

The candidate should have a desire to acquire technical product knowledge
and learn new publishing tools.

This position requires a working knowledge of FrameMaker and Windows NT, and
a familiarity with art tools (such as MS Visio) and HTML.
--------------------
Hope this is of some help to you.
Regards,
Anita

Would you have a
couple of minutes to just jot down what you feel an editor's duties should
be.

I'm working up a list of things I feel
an editor needs to do, but I'm also asking for help from my colleagues.
