Over the years and in the many, many job interviews I've had, that's the
ONLY time my lack of a bachelors degree has been mentioned.

I have a son in a similar situation. He dropped out of college at the ripe old age of 18, with 60 college credits towards an AA degree. Now, at age 25, he owns his own Internet business. He was crying to me a few days ago because he's been doing this for two months, and won't break even until next week :)

A while back, at his last paid position, his boss was discussing "bell curves." My son looked at him blankly. "Don't you know what a bell curve is? How did you get out of college without learning about them?" My son gave some weak excuse, while thinking, "Didn't this guy read my resume before hiring me?"

So, education might be important but knowledge and ability are also important. As others have stated, it depends on the job, the employer, and your personal goals. I am personally applying for a Master's degree program. I got my AA in 1973, and my BA in 1987. I should have my MA in 2006. At this rate, I will be dead before contemplating a Ph.D.!
