Is being a technical writer boring? No.

Are there boring tech writing jobs? Yes.

There are masses of people out there with the job title "technical writer" whose job is to update texts based on developers' inked corrections on hard copy.

Old version:
Output of this function is
0 = no
1 = yes

New version
Output of this function is
0 = no
1 = yes
2 = maybe

Your first employer might be a contracting house that sends you to such a job. Don't they say that 90 per cent of all computer programming is maintenance work -- something similar might apply for tech writing.

The regular posters on techwr-l are probably not doing this kind of work; so I don't think the culture of this list is representative of tech writers in general.
