This statement may just be saying that an "English" scientist, meaning an English-speaking scientist should not use the metric system because it would confuse things. Am I on the right track here?

As an example, remember a couple years back when NASA was about to land another vehicle on Mars and it disappeared? They found out that scientists in America were using the U.S. system and scientists in Europe were using the metric system. The satellite crashed on the surface. The two systems have problems when they are unknowingly mixed.
