I can speak only for myself: I don't even apply to companies unless I
believe that my skills and experience are at least a reasonably good match
for their advertised needs. And after I've done a bit of research on the
company and think it might be a place where I'd like to work. So if I get an
interview, unless I encounter some significant red flags there, I go in with
the thought and the attitude taht (a) I want to be there and (b) I'm ready
to start--now--if you want me to.
