Methinks he was talking about Word's Master Document feature -- which I have heard -- I think maybe even on this list -- that you should never use because it isn't reliable and can mess you up royally.

Could you elaborate on what you need?  What do you mean by a master document?  Are you talking about a template master or a toc?
