I'd suggest that you first delete the file hh.dat, which you should find in
this directory:
\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\HTML Help
If this file has been corrupted, or if it's no longer compatible with the
installed version of HTML Help, then your help files may behave
unpredictably. As the function of hh.dat is to store information about all
the HTML Help files on your system -- any changes that you've made to the
size and position of the windows, for example, and lists of favourite
topics -- you'll obviously lose this information when you delete the file.
However, Windows will create a clean version of it when you next open any
help file.
You could also try installing Microsoft Critical Update 811630, which is
available from this page:
This will install the latest version of the HTML Help viewer components.
If you continue to have problems then you could use MJ's Help Diagnostics to
check that the HTML Help components are properly installed and registered.
