Folks,
I ran across this site (http://www.gutenbergdigital.de/gudi/start.htm),
which has high-resolution scans, German transcriptions and English
translations of not only a complete Gutenberg Bible but also:
• A notarized document proving that Gutenberg was the inventor of
printing with moveable type (so far as was known in Europe at that time)
• A technical manual, written (in manuscript) four years before the
printing of the Bible, called the Model Book, which explains in
excruciating detail, with many illustrations, exactly how to render the
various figures used to illuminate the Bible. These instructions include
how to mix various colors, which colors to use together, the steps to
create each figure, etc.
The site is also very well put together, with clear (illustrated)
instructions for navigation of the various sections, fair warning about
bandwidth requirements, and complete content in two languages.
Enjoy.
Dick
