The cheapest decent screen capture is ScreenSeize, available at PC Magazine along with lots of other good utilities: $6 for 3 downloads.

Another way is to copy the screen to the clipboard with Ctrl+PrintScrn and paste it into freeware IrFanView where you can crop, scale, reduce colors, save in many other formats, do batch image processing, and scanning. http://www.irfanview.com/ This jewel belongs in everyone's toolbox.
