Scrutinize the freelance contract, of course, but you should also take a
look at your existing employment agreement. I could be wrong about this,
but I've heard that the fine print sometimes says that the company owns
any intellectual property you produce--on or off the premises--during
the time they own... er, employ you. Or some variation on that. Whether
it would hold up in court is another question, but if there's a whisper
of a chance you'd have to deal with it in court later on, better to be
aware of it upfront.
