I think it's funny how often someone will innocently ask a simple question
and receive posts that berate the person for asking the question in the
first place. The question was, How many tech writers use FM--not, Should I
use a number of FM users to convince my management to let ME use FM?
Sheesh...why is it we can't provide a simple answer to a simple question?
I wonder if this fact is a reason so many tech writers are marginalized
within their orgs--perhaps they marginalize themselves.

At any rate, I suspect the number is dwindling. I suspect that you could
extrapolate perhaps a percentage estimate, rather than real numbers (you'd
have to first know how many tech writers there are in the World). My
guesstimate: 65% of the software-oriented tech writers (not the ones doing
proposals, processes & SOPs) use FrameMaker.

I'd recommend going to www.frameusers.com for answers that perhaps are
more definitive.
