True. I was diagnosed with Kienbock's disease - avascular necrosis of
the lunate - fancy words for when the blood supply gets cut off to the
lunate bone in the wrist and the bone dies. If they catch it early
enough they can revasculate it. If not they have to remove the bone with
the two little bones next to it (my case). I have lost wrist flexion
because of it.

Typing usually does not cause it; it is caused by a trauma. In my case,
I had fallen and there was a slight break there that I didn't know about
which caused the blood supply to be cut off. Now I *have* to use
ergonomic keyboards. I also play the piano.

I went to 3 different orthopedists who told me literally everything uner
the sun (the bone is dying - but they didn't' know why. I thought all my
bones were going to die - I was so scared!) I finally got on the
Internet and looked up the top hand and wrist specialists in the world.
Luckily two were right here at UCLA so I went to one of them. He
immediately knew what it was. I told him of my travails with other
orthpoedists and he said he was not surprised that they misdiagnosed it
because it is very rare and usually regular orthopedists go their whole
careers without seeing one Kienbock's.

It pays to go to a specalist.

And don't just trust the word of a general practitioner; many (most?)
simply
aren't sufficiently expert in this field to provide good advice. Ask for
