I agree that it's a job, and if a better position becomes available, you
should pursue it IF...BIG IF...you've met your commitment to producing the
deliverable for which you were hired. This has nothing to do with
agreement...it has to do with being a professional.
There are certain windows where in my mind, it is permissible to change
position:
1) You've finished the deliverable you were hired to create and the employer
is moving you to the next project. You've fulfilled your commitment.
2) You've been at the contract for the agreed upon period of time and s/he
wants to extend the contract. This is also a good time to negotiate a higher
rate. Do not do so in the middle of the deliverable you were hired to
create.
3) You've switched from create mode to maintenance mode and you're not
learning anything new.
