I have not read any responses to this question, so:

Whenever I have received this error (and I have), I go to the
appropriate page in the source file (I've only encountered this error
with Framemaker, but it may not matter), and then I look for the
following (on the page that errors, +/- 1 page):

* graphics (re-link/re-embed the image)
* cross-references (recreate)
* any other oddities

Then I restart the machine, reprint to *.ps/*.prn/*.eps or
what-have-you, and redistill the file.

If I still encounter the problem, I reprint to *.ps/*.prn/*.eps or
what-have-you up to the page before the error. Then I do the same for
the page following the error. Then the errored page itself. Then I merge
the pdfs together and do some handy-dandy manual linking for the
Bookmarks, TOC and Index, as necessary.

Hope this helps!
