information from the US Dept of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics

Major Classification: 27-3000 Media and Communication Workers

27-3041 Editors: Perform variety of editorial duties, such as laying out,
indexing, and revising content of written materials, in preparation for
final publication. Include technical editors.

27-3042 Technical Writers: Write technical materials, such as equipment
manuals, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. May assist
in layout work.
