Hi David,

I think my attempt to test the plan for flaws is coming across as
negativity. (Maybe it's cause I'm a crappy writer!) I'm all over this plan,
but I want to try to punch holes in it before signing on.

Pompous quote of the day: "The subject who is truly loyal to the chief
magistrate will neither advise nor submit to arbitrary measures" (Junius).

You and Andrew had similar things to say --

Andrew wrote, "Its very sound strategy that made IBM, SAP, and Oracle their
fortunes...You are correct that it is a tricky strategy. It really requires
a sales force and support group that is in on the strategy and can steer
newbies into consulting contracts. "

And you referred to management's understanding that the "Consulting group
has the specialized knowledge and possibly years of experience needed to get
the system set up properly, [and they] want the opportunity to make money
(!) by selling the services of the Consulting group".

If I had seen evidence that the Consulting group here had a sound strategy
for selling their services (a la IBM, SAP etc.), I would be more positive on
the plan for the sys admin docs. But we're a small, young company and I
haven't seen much evidence so far. I haven't looked into it yet, so I might
be pleasantly surprised.

Either way, it's waaaaaaay outside my formal sphere of influence, so I'll
try to sell the idea to management and see what happens.

Thanks for sharing your ideas,
Brian
