*I* knew it was a joke. I came back with some very witty repartee, which got bounced back to me the next day, so you missed it... oh, ok, here it was:

"But Webster had awful trouble with spelling, didn't he? - A distinct dislike for the letter "u", as I recall... He's hanging out with Merriam now, isn't he?"

I mean, really, Americans knocking Australian English? - How could you not know it was a joke? (So now we just need a Pom to jump in, maybe do a little whinging about Australian and American English...)

The regional variations of English are really quite interesting, in both written and spoken language. Not to mention the accents!
