Or, to run a crew of less-credential-fixated writers.

There might soon be a chasm between those who just want to
do the job well, and those whose primary motivation is
career-enhancing-move certifications, with real-world
experience coming second (how distant a second, we'll leave
as an exercise for the reader).

We've got a couple of excellent network-and-OS specialists
here in our IT department. We've had applicants who waved
their MCSEs at us, who nevertheless weren't fit to carry
our crew's coffee mugs. One of our guys -- ok, the guy --
recently got his MCSE, and he found portions of it needed
study. The reason is that he never needs that stuff, and
will have forgotten it before a couple of months have gone
by. He also noted that there were huge practical gaps in
what the certification did cover, compared to what he needs
to know on a daily basis.
The other person... well she's busy running the department,
so she hasn't had time to go for qualifications. :-)
