I thought of that too, but you'd want to group the labels with the
lines, and I think that might mess up the line's ability to travel with

Is there any reason you can't simply make a box (circle, or whatever)
and put the same info as your label in it, duplicate it however many
times and superimpose these over your line at the desired intervals?
