Hey CB,
Many years ago someone had a recumbent bike fitted with custom
fingertip keys, much like a court stenographer, so he could
type while riding, and still maintain control. He added a trailer
that contained the computer gear, along with a satellite gizmo
so he could upload & download the articles he was writing. He
rode around the US, and I can't recall what ended up happening.
Yeah, I remember reading about that guy! I get a couple of different
bike riding magazines and I remember seeing him, I think in one of those.
He had a pretty nice rig going, with his trailer and whatever sort of
powering mechanism he had going. If I recall correctly, he had a solar cell
on top of the trailer and had done some modifications (or had them done) to
his equipment to allow for the reduced power produced by the solar cells.
He might've had some generator equipment on his bike, using his pedaling to
provide some additional power, too. I don't remember the details so I could
be wrong on some of this. Still, it WAS pretty interesting, wasn't it
just?! And no, I don't recall hearing much more about him, either.
On a kinda similar, but MUCH more low-tech vein, did you hear about the
guy from Iran, I believe, that took off on a bike and was riding around the
world on a self-proclaimed mission of peace? He had made it to Mexico and
was riding around there, waiting for his paperwork to come through allowing
him into the US so he could cycle up to New York. He ended up getting
arrested by INS/Border Patrol as he was camping out, thinking he was in
Mexico still but he had crossed into the US. He was being held for a while,
but he was recently released and he says he plans on going to California
and RUNNING to New York, now! I read about him in the New York Times.
Forget just reading the digest, send posts too!
CB - thinking that reading digests while skateboarding,
snowboarding, kayaking, surfing, or mountain biking
would be a much greater challenge
Depends on the shock absorption/water repellence of the gear! ;-P
