"Third, we're good writers. Half of the battle of
analysis is writing down what you've researched and
formulated so that everyone from management to
the techies can understand it."
ive seen an example of this in an engineering
design textbook( The Engineering Design Process 1991,
Ertas). in the first chapter the author discusses an
example of what youre talking about in this weapons
program that was being developed in the 50's. The
meaning of the terms automatic, semiautomatic and
manual meant something different to the mechanism
design team than they did to the Control team.
the author doesnt go into detail about what
exactly it was( must have been some area 51 stuff) but
he states that one of the major design requirements
was not met because of this. there is nothing as
extremely counter-productive as bad instructions, and
that is why us technical communicators exist. To
bridge gaps between people to help solve problems.
