TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Dana Worley reports that "Some of the
engineers argue that because the client is not actually connecting to
the datalogger, but connecting to the server that is connecting to the
datalogger, that it is technically inaccurate to have a Connect button."
What pedantic tripe!
If I were to telephone your engineers in Logan, Utah, would they argue that
since my phone isn't actually connecting to their phone, but connecting to
our key system that is connecting to a phone company Class 5 Central Office
switch that is connecting to a Class 4 or 3 switch that is connecting to a
blah blah blah blah which connects to their phone, it's technically
inaccurate to say we're connected??
Keep the Connect button. Add pointy hair to a few pictures of Dilbert and
pin them up where those engineers can see them.
