Subject:Re: how to document multi-choice GUI - thanks! From:Patrice Dodd <dodd -at- teleport -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Sat, 08 Mar 2003 22:27:56 -0800
I want to thank everyone for helping me with the multi-choice GUI. There
were two main categories of suggestions. One category centered on starting
with a flowchart showing the variety of paths a user might take, and then
see how those items could be grouped logically.
The other category of advice, which came from a number of sources, was to
hyperlink and/or cross reference the heck out of everything.
A combination of these two categories was to use a simplified flowchart
showing the main steps in either an introduction or quick start guide, with
items on the chart being hyperlinked/cross-referenced to detailed
explanations of each step.
Another idea was to provide procedures that took the user through several
typical paths, making sure that every choice a user might make was included
in at least one path, and then include a detailed explanation of each
section of the interface in a reference section.
Thanks again to everyone, and my apologies to anyone whose ideas I may have
misrepresented.
