TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I've written mostly service documentation, but I may now have an
opportunity to do some training, etc.
One of the terms I'm coming across with increased frequency is
"enterprise". I've always considered this a marketing term which has
little or no value in the world of service, but apparently is valued
legal tender in the world of marketing and sales.
What does it mean? To the best of my knowledge, it is synonymous with
"corporate environment". For example, "File-serving is a technology
that is designed largely for the enterprise market, whereas simple
file-sharing is a technology more suited to the home or SOHO market."
Anyone want to lend a hand? Extra credit given for examples.
