Alan,

And there is the question of why bother? Acrobat 5.0 has a "Save as RTF"
function, and there are several 3rd party tools that make attempts to do
this (see PDFZone). Admittedly, the conversion is often very flaky,
depending on the document's layout, but it is OK for a first pass.
Considering some of these tools have been around for many years, it seems
likely that flaky is the best you could hope for.
