John's solution works. There's also this approach:

"The first time [users] access [their] account[s], [they] will have to
enter[their] e-mail addresses and give praise to tech writers everywhere."

Clumsy in this example but works well elsewhere.

In general, you can rewrite any such sentence to avoid both gender and
grammatical clumsiness. Just takes some getting used to.

There are also other examples in the archives -- search under pronouns (or
other keywords, I'm sure).
