Hi,
Lyx (www.lyx.org) is free, but if you want a Word-type interface, try
Scientific Word (www.mackichan.com). Both applications use the LaTeX
markup language, which was designed specifically to render mathematical
notation, as the backend. I use LaTeX directly with a text editor. It can
be daunting at first, but its powerful once you get used to it.
