You might want to see if you can find a used copy of Rebecca Blood's
_Weblog Handbook_.

Not only will you get a rough definition of what a blog is (as if a
smoothed-out one exists), but you'll also discover some reasons why anyone
would want to keep one in the first place (validity notwithstanding). Read
