I think the free email accounts are popular precisely because
you can change them at will. It's amazing how many databases
want to use your email address as a unique identifier. Or as a
way to brand you, with all the connotations of the word. If you
don't want to be branded or tagged, I can see why you'd avoid
the offical address. Or for any of the other reasons you might
like to walk away from the address.

I am told I have a mail account with my cable Internet provider,
but I've never checked it. I can't even imagine how much spam is
in it.
