Well, we need to differentiate between some various sins of honesty.

1. Outright lying:

"Does the company have a marketing plan?"
"Yes!"

When they actually have nothing of the sorts.

2. Misleading

"Will I be allowed to work from home?"
"Sure."

...when you're sick. Not technically lying, but certainly misleading.

3. Omission

"Do you have a style guide."
"We have a complete style guide for writers."

...which is laughable and worthless.

4. Spin

"Are you a family-friendly company?"
"We consider our employees our most valuable asset. As such, we have a
comprehensive set of policies that ensure employees with families have the time
off they need to take care of loved ones. We firmly believe that when employees
are happy, they work better and achieve more."

...which means you'll only be given a glancing scowl (vs the normal evil eye of
hate) when you're late for taking a sick kid to the doctor.

5. Clueless HR

"What is your marketing plan."
"To be number 1!"

Clearly the interviewer is just clueless.

6. Bruce's Food Conundrum

"What do you people do for lunch around here?"
"What would you like us to do?

Like a mobius strip - there is no end!

My insipid point here - is that "dishonesty" takes many forms. And hindsight is
always skewed toward yourself.
