Here's another, albeit different, example where a word-for-word TOC was very
useful and effective.

One of my "how-to" tech writing books I bought several years ago had as its
section headings "rules" for tech writing. I think one was "write numbers
less than ten out in full" or "Use an active voice instead of passive.".
Then, with the word-for-word TOC, the TOC did indeed stand on its own as a
summary of tech-writing and grammatical rules. neat idea.
