Justin Ressler wondered: <<In a recent Word document, when using the
show/hide paragraph marks feature, I encountered a hard return arrow
enclosed by two pipes. |return arrow|>>

Never seen it before, but I've forwarded your message to copyediting-l to
see if anyone there recognizes it. I've asked them to respond to you
directly, so if you do get an answer, please copy it to techwr-l for our
benefit.

<<What is the mark below the ~ (tilde) called?>>

In French, the ` is called an "accent grave" (with a soft a like in gravel,
not pronounced like the place you bury a body); I believe the same term is
used in English, though with the word order reversed (grave accent).
